Studying viola at New World School of the Arts
As a viola major in the Bachelor of Music program at New World School of the Arts, students have the opportunity to study both viola and chamber music ensembles with Richard Fleischman.
In addition to weekly private viola lessons and chamber ensemble coachings, there is a weekly group studio class, in which all of violists, both from the college and high school programs, convene to perform and discuss repertoire and pedagogy. Often the studio class reads and rehearses multi-viola ensembles, as well.
College students in their 3rd and 4th years give a Junior and Senior recital as part of the graduation requirements.
College students in their 3rd and fourth years are also required to enroll in Mr. Fleischman's seminars in Symphonic Literature and Chamber Music Literature.
Students graduating from NWSA receive a Bachelor of Music Degree through University of Florida and New World School of the Arts.
HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM: Students accepted into Mr. Fleischman's private studio at the high school level will receive weekly private lessons and participate in his weekly studio class. Several of his high school graduates have gone on to prominent careers in music.
